The Global Defense SA-9 is manufactured in Turkey and based on a product offered to military and law enforcement in that country. It uses an upper and lower receiver machined from 7075 T6 aluminum alloy that is hard anodized. The 6.5” barrel is made of 4140 steel and has a chrome-lined bore and external QPQ finish. Its muzzle is threaded 1/2x28 TPI and has a three-lug mounting system for flash hiders or suppressors. It is shipped with a threaded-on A2-style flash hider.
Internally, the pistol uses a blowback-operated mechanism. The hammer, trigger and disconnector are AR-15-compatible. Controls are AR-15-style, with a thumb-operated safety lever that can be mounted on either side and left-side bolt hold-open device. The magazine release is of an ambidextrous paddle-type and is located in front of the trigger. The rear charging handle is also AR-compatible. The pistol feeds from MP5-type magazines and ships with a 30-round metal unit.
